Director of Growth and Business Operations

Purple Patch Fitness is one of the country’s most respected performance companies, with a rich history of training some of the world’s best triathletes and endurance athletes to world-class success, and we are set to take things to the next level. We are looking for an extraordinary, digital-centric Marketer with a tremendous ambition to create impact and help us grow.

Founder and Head Coach Matt Dixon created a methodology that produced one of the world's most successful professional athlete squads in triathlon history. Still, the truth is that we get just as fired up when one of our busy executives unlocks their recipe for sustained daily energy and reports lower stress levels or when a new athlete successfully crosses their first finish line in a race. When empowered with the proper methodology, anyone can thrive across sport, business, and life, and we’ve witnessed this for over fifteen years and with thousands of happy members.

This leadership role is a pivotal stake in the ground for our commitment to scale the business. This candidate will take the reins on all of our marketing and related operational assets to grow the platform.  Keyword: leader.  We still operate like a lean startup and need a scrappy, resourceful firestarter to take the initiative and thrive without much handholding. The Director of Growth and Business Operations at Purple Patch will help us 10x the business size, and this could be you!

We are a privately held and founder-run business. This opportunity is ideal for someone with an owner’s mindset and a strong entrepreneurial spirit who is excited to accelerate an already highly respected company and brand to a new level.

The home of the Purple Patch team is our state-of-the-art Performance Center in San Francisco, with a portion of the team based out of the facility. The Center welcomes athletes remotely and in person for coaching and performance services. In addition, the facility was designed and is operating as a production facility (video) and venue for executive-focus camps and clinics.

The candidate must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area, working out of the Purple Patch Performance Center.

The remaining Purple Patch team members work remotely, dispersed across the US. This strategic and operational role impacts all aspects of the Purple Patch Fitness business and product lines and will include leveraging and integrating the performance center into all product offerings.

The Purple Patch client base ranges from elite and professional athletes to C-level executives at Fortune 100 global businesses and organizations. We have a long history of proven results, an impeccable brand, reputation, and the right audience, and our Director of Growth and Business Operations will help drive our next growth stage.

The ideal candidate should have a demonstrated track record of growth and management within a consumer, subscription-based business, where customer retention and growth are essential to their role. The successful candidate will be hands-on, loves process, and is highly detail-oriented while quickly shifting to a big-picture framing when necessary. High autonomy and an ownership mindset are critical to the success of this role, with a focus on driving the current operational efficiency and profitability of our current offerings while also helping to drive new product line success in our corporate offering.

Job Description:

  • An entrepreneurial, roll-up-your-sleeves attitude and knack for problem-solving and organization – we pass the baton, and you run with it.

  • Create and drive a cohesive Marketing Strategy to scale our subscription memberships (Triathlon, Cycling, Running, 1:1 Coaching); and the proliferation of our ongoing content efforts (podcast, video, newsletter) to broader audiences for upper funnel expansion.

  • P&L responsibility for multiple existing lines of business within the Purple Patch Fitness group, including all squad subscription products, individual coaching, physical performance center, and multi-day training camps. This should consist of regular LTV/CAC & cohort modeling for quarterly forecasting.

  • Develop a strategic plan to maximize the integration of the Purple Patch Performance Center into all product offerings, as well as the exploration and evolution of subscription products, including entirely new memberships, to broader audiences.

  • Own, manage, and scale all digital marketing channels: Search, Social, Video, Podcast, Email/SMS, Affiliate, and Partnerships.

  • Own, manage, and report upon all Website, App & Subscription platform data and analytics, including regular member surveys and NPS reporting.

  • Systems integrations, streamlining of processes, customer support, and workflows.

  • Negotiate and ensure the appropriate legal agreements are in place for all stakeholders, vendors, and employees.

  • Day-to-day management of vendors, coaching, support, and system support staff

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years in a senior digital marketing capacity with deep knowledge of the customer lifecycle, from Acquisition to Retention & Engagement

  • Current subscription and membership experience, ideally including premium membership models.

  • Deeply data-centric and performance marketing oriented with a complete understanding of marketing analytics and cohort analyses

  • Experience and desire to manage and grow teams with a relentlessly positive mindset, great teamwork, leadership, and communication abilities.

  • Mastery of electronic communication tools (Google Apps, Microsoft Office, Slack, etc).

We do not require you to have completed an Ironman or even a 10k. Still, if you’re a perfect match, the infectious joy of personal success you help facilitate daily will doubtless get you moving on your performance journey. If the above triggers “This is me!” then reach out immediately. We tend to move fast.
